This is about two movies I watched way long back and this post lay hidden in my posts-box.Here it is

Jerry Macguire: The name sounded intriguing to me and Tom Cruise  looked utterly handsome in the snapshot.I found it to be an average movie. But when I wiki-ed (I have to – for they describe it scene by scene – so I kind of make up on parts I missed) it , I read how it was a nice movie after all.And the rage its dialogues were-
"Show me the money" ,
"help me help you"
and
"You had me at hello".

Well, the last one left me touched too.Acting stupid comes natural to Renee Zwe who looks like foolishly in love with Tom.I had loved her anyways in her chick lit- Bridget Jones' diary.

Someone like you : Its one of the nicest rom coms I have watched in recent times – not because it was very humorous or great, but may be because it stars Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman. They both were new faces for me (hollywood illiterate I am).Ashely  looks gorgeous and fresh as a strawberry .For Hugh Jackman's character ,I would say I love the way how the portrayal of his character gradually changes towards the end .And the other hero - portrayed as a perfect guy in the starting looks like a dud towards the end of the movie.A fickle minded person - happens in real life too very often .In the novel, on which it is based- the story ends where Ashley and Hugh should end up being great friends. How a boy and a girl can be perfectly comfortable in each other's company as friends. But  like bollywood movies aren't really them without songs,a hollywood rom-com also won't complete without a kiss and hug ending. So,the romantic angle that looked "pushed" and unnecessary was there in the end.
By the way, I loved the way movie opened. How they study behaviour of males towards females through studies on Cows.

The Japanese Wife

The Japanese Wife - this mov ie's recommendation was picked up from Shobaa De's blog .There had been multiple motivations to watch this movie - namely Aparna Sen,Rahul Bose,Japanese culture and Bengali culture.

Bengali is like sugar for ears.Mishti Dohi.I liked the way how whole cast was more or less of Bengali origin-Moushmi Chatterjee, Rahul Bose and Rima Sen.That helps. To bring the original culture to the table esp linguisticwise.(That reminds me of  terrible Punjabi spoken by Hema malini in Veer zara, or Ranbir in role of Hindi-speaking-Sardar in Rocket Singh.)

I had already read the story of the movie before watching it- so that spoiled the fun,but still I watched it for its promising factor. One thing I liked about the movie is that the financial background of the lead character is not very strong - but this does not make the scene dismal.Family seems to be happily doing in a village, even though it is one the main reasons why Snehmoy cannoit visit Japan and bring his wife.
The background score is a mix of Oriental music(which I could not help but feel like was more or less Chinese- may be because I have heard such music in Chinese restraunts:P) and folk songs of boatmen in West India. The effect on movie was so profound .that after watching the flooded Malta river in monsoons, for some time, I felt it was raining outside. The atmosphere created in the movie had captured my mind on a sunny day which seemed like a rainy evening in my mind.

It's a beautiful watch with all the characters - delicate and beautiful - colorful -like Japanese kites in Indian sky.

Another set of movies

Sweet November :Keanu Reeves used to be my favorite ..till the time (I hadn't seen Matt Daemon and ) watched Sweet November.I wonder when someone talks about romantic movies, nobody misses to mention Sweet November. For I found it very stereotypical, the girl is bubbly kinds, boy is nerd kinds. She is bizzare , asks him to experience life with her just because she couldn't get her driving license back because of him.And helpless man,no matter how strangely weird a beautiful woman can be,he can never refuse. So he moves in , falls in love as usual and then finds out the girl has cancer. One won't like to watch this very predictable movie unless one is stuck with stereotypical romantic movies. And I didn't see a point, even if she is dying - why Charlize 's character  needed to wear clothes as if she had lost her dressing sense completely.

I am Sam : Watch it , for if you don't, you don't know who's Sam :P.Ok, Sean Penn is Sam , a 7-year old  father (mentally I mean..) of an 8 -year old girl. Our 8- year old babes is getting intelligent day by day ...so Family Welfare deptt jumps in to  provide the plot of story ..Wow,its like , in India,we get movie stories because govt never interferes as saviour, and hollywood guys can make heart rendering movies out of how govt is concerned.Cool.Anyways, father- daughter are great.

My Sassy Girl :Korean version , hindi version and english version , I bet the korean version is the best.To start with, the lead pair is cutest in korean version.Secondly, while english movie has a little bit different take , hindi version is a ditto - I guess they just had to translate the dialogues. But both ways, movie's essence got ruined.English movie, removed all the fun part and
hindi one retained all those and it still looked dim (ugly or pagli).

Thoda sa rumani ho jaayein ...

is a beautiful poetic drama directed by Amol Palekar..With time, it might be getting old as in the number of years passed since its release, but it seems timeless to me , its charm is ever appealing - nobody will ever fail to enjoy it - and nobody can miss appreciating the beauty of poetic dialogues and monologues-the typical style of nana patekar with the monologues can  imprint those in one's heart.

Movies Gallore ..

I am having a movie fiesta going on.Thanks to this giant LCD in my room , I am enjoying and indulging in movies like never before.I remember when I bought laptop, while people go out and try to find some sleek, light weight model, I bought a brick-heavy one -why -because its screen was big enough for my movie watching , I never call it a notebook for that reason.
So,in chronological order I had a taste of these movies :

Avatar : nice, because I finally got to know how a 3-D movie looks and feels like..I was doing and on and off game with my 3-D glasses to remind myself to appreciate the 3-D ness of movie...much to disgust of pepole around..the bad part was subtitles were in Korean, I could not even pester my team mates with "what did he say" "what what what" , when actors normally speak their indecipherable English.I loved everything bluey bluey and I loved the flying good spirits, the colors, animation, location , everything was so exotic, that when critics cribbed about storyline,I was like give him a break , people. It is Man vs Machines everywhere or man vs aliens, but where was ever a message given about embracing nature...anyways,I can watch the plug-n-play flying birds, floating mountains any number of times, if given a chance..I loved Avatar.

Seven Pounds : it was heart rendering to see Will Smith in so much pain, he is my hot-favs like.guy, he made me hate jelly fishes. It was so heavy stuff for me , I was sobbing at the end of the movie. But I loved the part where he comes out of blue and transforms people's lives.Though "heavy" is the word.

Rocket Singh :Such a simple and effective message in such a far fetched movie..one would love the casting part in start, it captures a middle class household's most trivial and common things in such a colorful and enchanting way.PC (Prem Chopra) ...this the first time in his entire career, I liked him in some role ..( he should be happy for that), the dialogues are wow.Ranbeer is nice -good that he didnt try fiddling with Punjabi - he might have ruined it..and what a character everybody has played- esp the team of rocket Sales-is amazing. The entire cast is great.Except the basic facts which could have made the story feel like real, everything is perfect and in place.By some basic stuff I mean-All while the movie,it felt like they are selling vacuum cleaners rather than computers... you know -the way they sold, its hard to imagine that a guy  from leading  computer business would recognize with it..and Mr.Puri in computer business no longer exist in real scenario. In real scenario, exists is Mr.Puri 's all bad qualities + Mr.Rocket's pushing for working in night and all round the clock -24 hours, you see.

Twilight 1 n 2 : I loooove teenage romance.Esp the protective boyfriends and made-of-love-girlfriends...mmm, I loved both the parts.

Three Idiots : good humour, good message , again not very realistic and why does Amir has to concentrate all the movie around him?I love Chatur's speech part though ;)

Kung fu Panda : Must watch ..I love the East Asian touch to english speaking animation characters and swift Kungfu moves - one good thing is - it doesnot belong to one animal class, so you can see a tortoise too in kunguf, a panda, a tiger,an insect (for God's sake), a snake and a birdie too.Hats off, to the nice combination it creates and ofcourse the adorable Panda learning Kung-Fooo.

Fly Away Home

Oct 24,2009

So, I watched this movie yesternight- Fly away home.Ostrich had recommended this movie. And I had dismissed it as just-another-drama-movie until I watched it.This movie had everything I had wished I could see in a single movie. The beautiful landscapes, farmlands, open fields, view from sky, lakes and lovely geese of course.

Amy,the little tough girl, her eyes carried the strength of her desire. They were alight with her determination, her single mindedness.A fire alive with dreams,I love to see in one’s eyes,I could watch all this while in this movie. The crazy artist the dad is,how he can keep aside the rest of the world to follow one dream his daughter nurtures, free his mind is,is what I had wanted to see always.Free they fly and tame the sky.

The birds-when they fly high up in the sky and when they flap their wings in the lake ,were a visual treat for me.

Colors, dreams, open sky, birds, bond with birds and animals, beautiful places, vast beautiful open earth, free minds, flow of thoughts,a cozy little family- I wished such things didn’t belong only to hollywood. They travelled to us,touched our lives and made an artist out of each of us.

P.S. I loved the brown eyes of the Dad ;)

Valley of flowers..

(Picked up from another bog of mine)

Nov 2,2009

Valley of flowers is one place that is on top of my list of places I HAVE to visit before I die and I somehow believe that my soul will keep shunting between the two worlds if I don’t get this wish fulfilled .Anyways,so I downloaded this movie Valley of flowers just because its name is Valley of Flowers.I was hoping I’ll get to get the glimpse of the valley or may be they will “atleast” tell something about the valley, but guess, despite somewhere being related to the theme, the movie guys showed nearly all valleys of Himalayas except this particular one only. But,that is not the point. The thing is -the movie is hauntingly captivating.I don’t know the technicalities the camera work comprises of , but it’s great in this movie-the Himalayas looked majestic-the valleys, the rivers, the rocky terrains, the costumes, the sages, mystic Eastern Asian philosophies, mysteries of Himalayas, the dialogues, the eerie supernatural touch , the plot, the suspense that hangs, beautiful and legendary portrayal of certain scenes- the subtle hints- I was glued to my PC.The sad part is – I could not understand quite a few things in movie, which well, all “great” kind of movies never explain. But I fell in love with this movie.

So, if anybody who reads this and has watched this movie , please explain to me -

from where did Ushna come?what was her purpose? Why did this elixir worked on its own will? And what on earth was causing Yeti-constipation – that he won’t let the two sweet lovers unite?

P.S. is valley of silence for real?
