My favorite narrative part from "The Gods must be Crazy -1"

This is about how beauty and physical appearance is just a matter of perception .

The following excerpt is from narration of -The Gods must be crazy...a Bushman (an African tribe) who lives in the heart of Kalahari desert -how he perceives some white people from civilized society he meets on his way to end of the earth:
(On encountering Miss thompson - a slim beautiful white woman with curly hair)
That morning, Xi saw the ugliest person he'd ever come across.
She was as pale as something that had crawled out of a rotting log.
Her hair was quite gruesome...long and stringy and white, as if she was very old.
She was very big.
You'd have to dig the whole day to find enough food to feed her.
Although it was a hot day, she was wearing skins...
...that looked as if they were made from cobwebs.
She was doing strange and magical things.
It struck him that she must be one of the gods.
He wondered what she was doing on earth.
He was glad he met her. He'd give her the evil thing...
...and go home to his family.
.
(Steyn enters with a cigar in his mouth)
There was another god. He had a fire inside him.
The smoke came out through his mouth and nostrils.

(Approached by Mpudi on a motor vehicle) There was a peculiar sound, and Xi saw a most amazing animal approaching.
It's legs went around instead of up and down.
And there was a weird-looking god on its back.
He wore blue skin on his head and red on his body.
And hair grew on his face.

(As they speak among them in English) The funny thing was that they couldn't speak.
They made chattering sounds like monkeys.

The Gods must be crazy-1

Mpudi - You've gotta smile and tell her she looks good.
Steyn - How are you an expert on women?
Mpudi - I got seven wives. How many you got?
Steyn -Why aren't you at home with them?
Mpudi - I know how to marry them.Nobody knows how to live with them.

When Harry Met Sally

Harry: “There are two kinds of women: high maintenance and low maintenance.”
Sally: “Which one am I?”
Harry: “You’re the worst kind; you’re high maintenance but you think you’re low maintenance.”

Aisha

Just a few days after watching a movie as heavy as "The Sum of all fears" based on a fictional incidence related to US-Russia ties and nuclear war- I watched Aisha.A chic movie as its name.

Now,I was really disappointed when the movie couldn't do much business at box office and received avg. to bad reviews.Despite of that,I was really interested in watching this movie for the obvious reasion - its a "Girls'" movie!
Anyways,I got a DVD arranged finally and sat down to watch it.And as a girl,I didn't find anything unlikable about the movie, nor something that it should get bad reviews.I thoroughly enjoyed the movie .The movie portrays perfectly what it wants to portray - Delhi's upper class and Emma. The costumes are just amazing and here everyone would corroborate this fact. The girls put their act together too very nicely. There wasn't much scope for brilliant acting, but in her role,Sonam did full justice to Aisha - and acted well. That reminds me of Deepika who always pastes a smile on her face in most of the dialogues delivery like she is on stage-modelling.That makes her dialogue delivery flat. But Aisha's disposition is cute, lovable, frothy ,and she carries  a laughter full of life.
Another thing I like is - the regular bitchiness of upper class has been sidelined and even if its there - they have been carried and delivered by Sonam in such a way that no matter how bitchy she might get - you would still adore her.Well, isn't that Emma?

Guys and girls in the movie looked great and Amrita puri as Shefali is refreshing. The sets ,locations are identifiable- yet look great.Aisha's life is exactly how a upper class chic's life you ,me and even upper class girls would picture in their mind.

The thing I think was missing in movie which made it a downplay was its lack of humour. Now,girls would love this movie anyways. But why would guys go and watch a movie like Aisha- they would go expecting the humour and 3 hours full of light refreshing moments- since obviously it will fall in romantic comedy basket. There isn't a problem with a female -centred romantic comedy since acts and dialogues have been great. But then you need a dash of humour ,light moments, giggles and laughters to keep you hooked to the movie. That makes up for no story or bad story (since we consider it to be a "story" in bollywood only when its quite gripping and seriously well crafted). In romantic comedy - romance and comedy are what we are looking for.A little more justice required for both of them in Aisha.
.
But I love Aisha, its costumes, music,Delhi and the one whom I watched this movie with :)

This is about two movies I watched way long back and this post lay hidden in my posts-box.Here it is

Jerry Macguire: The name sounded intriguing to me and Tom Cruise  looked utterly handsome in the snapshot.I found it to be an average movie. But when I wiki-ed (I have to – for they describe it scene by scene – so I kind of make up on parts I missed) it , I read how it was a nice movie after all.And the rage its dialogues were-
"Show me the money" ,
"help me help you"
and
"You had me at hello".

Well, the last one left me touched too.Acting stupid comes natural to Renee Zwe who looks like foolishly in love with Tom.I had loved her anyways in her chick lit- Bridget Jones' diary.

Someone like you : Its one of the nicest rom coms I have watched in recent times – not because it was very humorous or great, but may be because it stars Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman. They both were new faces for me (hollywood illiterate I am).Ashely  looks gorgeous and fresh as a strawberry .For Hugh Jackman's character ,I would say I love the way how the portrayal of his character gradually changes towards the end .And the other hero - portrayed as a perfect guy in the starting looks like a dud towards the end of the movie.A fickle minded person - happens in real life too very often .In the novel, on which it is based- the story ends where Ashley and Hugh should end up being great friends. How a boy and a girl can be perfectly comfortable in each other's company as friends. But  like bollywood movies aren't really them without songs,a hollywood rom-com also won't complete without a kiss and hug ending. So,the romantic angle that looked "pushed" and unnecessary was there in the end.
By the way, I loved the way movie opened. How they study behaviour of males towards females through studies on Cows.

The Japanese Wife

The Japanese Wife - this mov ie's recommendation was picked up from Shobaa De's blog .There had been multiple motivations to watch this movie - namely Aparna Sen,Rahul Bose,Japanese culture and Bengali culture.

Bengali is like sugar for ears.Mishti Dohi.I liked the way how whole cast was more or less of Bengali origin-Moushmi Chatterjee, Rahul Bose and Rima Sen.That helps. To bring the original culture to the table esp linguisticwise.(That reminds me of  terrible Punjabi spoken by Hema malini in Veer zara, or Ranbir in role of Hindi-speaking-Sardar in Rocket Singh.)

I had already read the story of the movie before watching it- so that spoiled the fun,but still I watched it for its promising factor. One thing I liked about the movie is that the financial background of the lead character is not very strong - but this does not make the scene dismal.Family seems to be happily doing in a village, even though it is one the main reasons why Snehmoy cannoit visit Japan and bring his wife.
The background score is a mix of Oriental music(which I could not help but feel like was more or less Chinese- may be because I have heard such music in Chinese restraunts:P) and folk songs of boatmen in West India. The effect on movie was so profound .that after watching the flooded Malta river in monsoons, for some time, I felt it was raining outside. The atmosphere created in the movie had captured my mind on a sunny day which seemed like a rainy evening in my mind.

It's a beautiful watch with all the characters - delicate and beautiful - colorful -like Japanese kites in Indian sky.
